No More - It's The Law

All licensees, nominees and staff if licensed premises have a responsibility to ensure that liquor is sold and supplied to patrons in a responsible manner.  

It is an offence to:

• sell liquor to;
• supply liquor to;
• allow liquor to be supplied to or consumed by

a person who is under 18 years of age, or who is unduly intoxicated or disorderly.

There are heavy penalties for committing these offences. 

Minors

Persons under the age of 18 years must not be on a licensed premises exept in the following circumstances:

• The minor is resident on the premises;
• The minor is acting as an employee, or receiving training for employment or work experience, or performing duties in the conduct of a lawful business;
• The minor is attending a bona fide function on the premises (eg. wedding);
• The minor is eating a meal on the premises; and
• Is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Four forms of identification are acceptable in licensed premises:

• A current driver's licensed or learner's permit with a photo and date of birth;
• A current passport;
• An Australian, Government-issued proof-of-age card (18+ card);
• A Victorian Keypass

Refusal of Service

Licensees may refuse service to patrons for the following reasons:

• the law requires it (eg. if the person is a minor or unduly intoxicated or disorderly)
• safety of the patron – the consumption of liquor is placing their safety in jeopardy
• safety of others - the consumption of liquor by a particular patron is placing the safety of other patrons in jeopardy
• civil liability; and/or
• failure to meet dress standards set by management
