Yaralla Sports Club Inc. (formerly Queensland Alumina Sports Club) was formed in 1966 to organise sporting and sports related social activities for a growing number of Queensland Alumina Ltd (QAL) employees and their families. The site occupied by the club was originally a hostel for single construction workers at QAL.
In 1969, QAL made available several buildings for use as interim club rooms. In subsequent years, with the assistance of QAL, the club developed significant sporting facilities to provide sporting activities on the hostel site, these sporting facilities are still highly regarded as some of the best in Central Queensland.
In 1992 with the club having a wide community membership base, QAL believed it was appropriate to grant the club house independence. Accordingly the club became incorporated in it’s own right as a sporting facility, renamed Yaralla Sports Club Inc. The Club has a current membership base of approximately 23,000 members. Further more the club has twelve (12) active sports Sub-Committees involving a wide range of activities such as Lawn Bowls, Cricket, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, Softball, Netball, Soccer and Deep Sea Fishing etc.
In 2001 the club completed the first stage of an ambitious development program worth $1.9 million which included a new Gaming Room, Sports Bar, Reception, Coffee Shop and various Back of House facilities.
In 2003 the club completed stage two (2) of renovations worth $800,000.00 which included a new Members Lounge and Restaurant.Yaralla Sports Club currently employs approximately sixty (60) persons from the Gladstone area and continues it’s focus on maintaining some of Central Queensland’s finest sporting facilities.
2004 saw the completion of stage three (3) renovations providing Front of House Kitchen Servery, extension to the dining room to accommodate 300 persons, an extension to the Gaming Room and renovation of the existing Function Room.
Due to the success of these renovations Yaralla Sports Club completed stage four (4) renovations valued at $2.8 million in June 2006. Stage four comprised of a new Gaming Room, refurbishment of the Entrance and Reception facilities, external smoking courtyards, a new Asian restaurant including an additional kitchen, an additional 50 sealed car parks, a new Lawn Bowls green including an extension to the Bowling Clubhouse and an extension to Administration.
